Mixing Colour with Light
The addition of light can significantly add to or subtract from the overall colours in a room or from only the surfaces that the light touches. Darker colours can make a room seem small and cramped, whereas light-coloured walls will do the opposite.
The illusion of space is created by light reflecting off the surfaces of your walls. Some types of lighting such as uplights, downlights and sconce lights can help with this illusion, by further illuminating the walls.
Natural Light Hack
Natural light is very important, so it would be wise to choose a south-facing home with large windows and lots of natural light, if possible.
If that’s not an option, then try to find ways to compensation for a lack of windows by placing mirrors on walls opposite windows. This way, they will reflect the daylight and create a brighter, more spacious looking home.
